Roast the shells of newly laid eggs. Ground the roasted shells into a powder. Chop up the leaves and petals of marigold flowers. Put the egg shells and marigolds into a pot of good ale. Add treacle and warm over a fire. The patient should drink this mixture every morning and night.

The streets should be cleaned of all human and animal waste. It should be taken by a cart to a field outside of the village and burnt. All bodies should be buried in deep pits outside of the village and their clothes should also be burnt.

They usually died because there was no cure back then. After people fell to the ground (died), there were volunteers who put posies into the rotting bodies' pockets in order to get rid of the horrible stench. That is where the tune, "Ring Around the Rosie" came from. Just think about it: Pocket full of posies (to get rid of the smell of dead bodies), ashes to ashes (they also burnt the bodies), we all fall down (we all die). It's a sad song really.

For the most part their way of dealing with the Bubonic Plague was to die a horrible death. They blamed "Ill Vapors" and cats which were associated with witches. The actual cause was the Yersina Pestis bacteria carried by the fleas on the rats, so by killing cats they actually made things worse. The plague finally ended when there were not enough people still alive to help spread the disease by person to person contact. Improved sanitation and pest control along with antibiotics have made a reoccurance of the Black Death very unlikely.
