How did people respond to the Black Death before knowing that the cause was the fleas?

Answer:
they wore masks to hide themselves from the disease, didn't bathe (thinking that was causing it), had posies in their pockets, put frogs on their boils (they thought since frogs had very porus skin, they thought it could suck the disease out of the boils which failed), they left bodies on the sidewalks, and ate the rats and rodents during that time since agriculture died since no one would tend to them.
