William Shakespeare became famous by writing stories in his spare time. He worked in a pantomime and some of his friends came across his stories and plays. They decided to keep his plays and use them as their own. They made Shakespeare the main person to make the plays more popular. However they didn't ask William if it was ok! they just did!

Even during his era, while Elizabethan English was common, Iambic Pantameter was not. Although we don't completely understand why in our day and age, he was very skilled in his comedic writings (women holding jobs such as Lawyers in "The Merchant of Venice" was unheard of and laughable. And making fun of Jews was a sure fire way to get a laugh back then). You can also find a lot of political satire in his writings. The man knew what he was doing.
