Slave labour was vital in the economy of ancient egypt, as many slaves were put to work in the agricultural sector of egypt, which was its backbone. Hard manual labour was required in the fields, sowing the seeds, harvesting and threshing the grain, as well as cutting papyrus and looking after livestock.
They were also employed on public works building temples and monuments, digging canals and working in the gold mines.
