While there were numerous programs, College Education Assistance and Home ownership loans were heavily used and probably paid handsome rewads to America with the influx new teachers, doctors, lawyers,etc.
Many got out of the military and back to civilian life, others made a career of the military. Others went from active duty into reserve and national guard units.
The GI Bill Of Rights made sure that the American soldiers would get money for college and money to provide there family after the war they were just in.
