the fur trade affected the people of Canada (the natives) by:

  • they got new things such as pots and pans, guns, trinkets, knifes, cutlery
  • the natives religion was changed to christian by the English: which made them not savages and other tribe's thought they were weak because they could not kill therefore they were killed off
  • disease was brought from the English ... small pocks, tuberculosis, common cold, influenza, and chicken pocks. theses diseases were deathly because the natives did not have immunity to any of this ( at one point 90% of the native population was killed off due to diseases)
  • the natives got cheap things for expensive fur but it was worth it to them
  • there was a big fight over Canada on the plains of Abraham between the English and the french....both leaders of the french (montcalm) and the English (wolfe) died in battle, but Wolfe lived long enought to hear that he won(the English won)
  • the fur trade sometimes divided different tribes
