The internation community condemned the genocide. The Allied victors demanded, after the war, that the Ottoman government prosecute the Young Turks occused of wartime crimes. however, nothing was ever really done.

Because it was not a genocide but a war. The Armenians had began to attack the Ottoman army and the Ottomans responsed. Besides the war, there were civil killings from both sides. Ottoman Empire hanged many Turks as a punishment. Nothing was done to Armenians who killed civil Turks. They were only banished from Turkish soil.

The

Armenians that survived the genocide and the marches were spread all over the world. These are referred to as the Armenian Diaspora. I am an Armenian, my great grandfather survived the genocide along with one of his brothers. They were a family of 11 children and only 2 survived. They were very small boys and ended up in Egypt. Others were able to leave the continent altogether and made it to the US or Canada, Australia, South America. I have relatives in every single continent on the globe. I have cousins who are the decendants of our great grandfather who live in Brazil, Australia, England, the US, Canada, Egypt, Armenia.

I know that Germany and America sent missionaries who helped out in the camps. The Germans later withdrew.

Who was responsible for the Armenian genocide and WHY did they do it?

Genocide is defined as "the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group." The Ottoman Government was responsible for the Armenian Genocide. To be specific Envar, Jemal, and Talat-pasha were the main people who organized the genocide. The killings were an attempt to wipe out the Armenians and rid them from Turkey. The reason you hear many people complaining/talking about the Armenian Genocide, and not the Holocaust, is because the Turkish government has not accepted the Armenian Genocide. They say it was a civil war, not a genocide, and they teach that to the children in the schools.
