How did the terms pro-life and pro-choice get chosen to represent the groups against and for abortion?

Answer:

  • No one is for abortion. The term pro-choice means that you wish to have the choice, while pro-life means you think that no one has the right to take another life through abortion.

  • There is a battle going on over abortion. Many say yes to abortion because they feel a woman's body is her own to do as she wishes with, but the kicker is this: is it murder? When is a fetus a human being? These people are pro-choice. There are some people that believe no matter what the circumstances, abortion should never be allowed. These people are pro-lifers. And the war rages on. Pro-life means for life- they believe that life is sacred and women should take responsibilty for their actions. Pro-choice means for choice. Subscribers believe it is a woman's choice whether or not to accept responsibilty (to have the child) because life doesn't start until the baby is born.

  • It is hard to say. Most likely one of the terms got picked up sometime in the 60's, and the other was coined in response. They most likely chose these because both have positive connotations.
