The Treaty of the Versailles affect Germany by taking away German land in Europe, its colonies in Africa and the Pacific. It also limits the size of Germany's armed forces. It also placed all the blame for the war on them.

Germans were angry at the Weimar government for signing the treaty and in return lost poularity. Germany had to pay reprations to France and Britain. France invaded Germany to take land back. Germany Printed more money which led to hpyerinflation. The Navy and Airforce was destroyed, ground soldiers were limited to 100,000. They couldn't be within 100Km of the border.

Versailles economically shattered Germany. With over a million troops returning from the front line, rationing in place and practically no trade between countries, somehow Germany would have to recover. Versailles made this worse because of the £6.6 billion they had to pay in reparations and the loss of industrial territory. It also caused an unrest in politics, with many detesting the new democracy Left and Right wing extremists were constantly trying to take power (eg the Spartacist rising Jan 1919, The Kapp Putsch 1920) however the to extremist groups would always cancel each other out. It left Many Germans in shock, self-determination was applied to Germans that were now living out of Germany because of Versailles, and soldiers felt betrayed by their government whom they referred to as the 'November Criminals'. People were questioning why Germany was the only country that had reduced armed forces, and outraged that they had to take full responsibility of the war. But Versailles left huge unemployment in Germany, it was the toughest time that the Germans had to face outside of war and left many starving and resorting to crime.
