In the World War II era, "mobilizing the economy" helped numerous nations end the Depression's effects. For the United States, in particular, gearing up for war and then actually entering the war had a decisively positive economic effect, as many products were needed to gain victory, which led to many more people being employed, among other "boosts" to the American economy.
Working class entered the military so plants/factories NEEDED new workers. Wages raised and people had lots of overtime.
