Mormons were beaten, tarred and feathered, robbed, kidnapped, and killed. they were forced out of their homes, their cities were burned, and their temples were desecrated.
Christians also posed a problem for Roman rulers. The main reason was that they refused to worship Roman gods. This refusal was seen as opposition to Roman rule.
Some of the early Christians faced persecution by the Roman authorities because of some of their beliefs which were considered treasonous by the Romans.
