Why did Severus Snape turn evil?

Ever since he started at hogwarts and before that he had a bad nature..very secretive and lied alot. Then when he started to hogwarts he discovered the meanings of "pure blood'', "half blood" and so on. So he looked into his history..not knowing his mother or father. He always thought that his father was the wizard,but when he went through all the records and never found a riddle, he knew that it must have been his mother, and so his passion to be a "pure blood'' made him hate his father..hense the reason he changed his name to voldermort. Then the killings started. Plus when you look down his blood line he wasnt related to the best people. Tom also had so much power....and went from having nothing and being an outsider to being very powerful and "wanted" i guess you would say. And as the power grew so did his evil side. And that's why he went bad or got worse and became voldermort.

He grew up as an orphan. he always thought that his parents were mean to have left him at that awful place, and always had a knack for bullying little kids anyway. he found out that his dad had left his mom when he was young and got angry so he killed his dad and grandparents. the idea of wizardry still new to him, he thought it strange that his mother had to go with Death, so he decided that he would spend the rest of his life trying to evade Death.

Tobias Snape, his father, is a muggle who hated both him and his mother, Elieen Prince. Severus Snape grew up listening to his parents fight and when he went to Hogwarts and learned of Lord Voldemort and his beliefs he agreed with them.

The only thing that made him change sides in 1980 was the threat on the life of a girl he had always loved, Lily Evans. Lily being muggle-born is what made him come around to the fact that not all muggles/muggle-borns are bad.

Tom Riddle, or Voldemort is the villain in the Harry Potter Series. Voldemort's father abandons his mother before Voldemort's birth. Shortly after his birth, his mother dies. Tom Riddle, Sr. never attempts to find his son. After living in an orphanage, young Tom is told that he is a wizard by Albus Dumbledore, who arranges for him to attend Hogwarts. Riddle is a model pupil, but is in reality a sadist who enjoys using his powers to harm and control people. He eventually murders his father and grandparents as revenge for abandoning him. Tom Riddle became evil probably in revenge, anger, agony, and sadness- because his father and grandparents abandoned him as well as his mother dying. His childhood was rough, so he turned out rough.

Tom Marvolo Riddle was a troubled child. He was bullied and made fun of in his orphanage, and so he grew to be a cold, cruel person. (Indeed, the wizarding world should realize how lucky they were that Harry Potter, having grown up under similarly dreadful conditions, did not turn out like Mr. Riddle!) He found a certain power once he learned to control his magic, as he was the only wizard in the muggle orphanage. he used magic to fend off bullies, but he went too far in the other direction, using it to terrorize other orphans.

The orphanage was where he learned that there was 'no good or evil, only power'. Riddle was, from a young age, a bit of a Machiavelli. He felt himself superior to the Muggle orphans, for he could, with magic, so easily overpower them.

Once he went to Hogwarts, he learned the history of his parents. This was when he began desire immortality, wishing that his mother had not died, so that he would not have lived in the orphanage where he had a bad childhood. His natural charisma and self-assurance led the Pureblood crowd to fall behind him, along with his beliefs of magical superiority. It wasn't a long jump from 'wizards are better than Muggles' to 'Purebloods are better than Mudbloods', but it is uncertain whether he made that jump on his own, or to better appeal to the Purebloods.

The real break, however, was the culmination of these factors at Little Hangleton, when he made his first horcrux, rending his soul in two, and killing several of his blood kin in the process. Yes, he killed a Pureblood (and Muggles), but this was about revenge--they, his own blood, left him in that orphanage. He was lashing out.

It was after this, after his soul was ripped apart, that he really became Lord Voldemort. This was probably his first kill, and most certainly the first time he cast such despicably Dark magic. There was no trace of boyhood or goodness left. He was irredeemable.
