How did tucson arizona get its name?

[Edit]

Answer

Tucson is a Spanish word meaning "black base" a reference to the mostly volcanic mountains on the west side of the city. There is some disagreement over the meaning of Arizona. Either a Basque word meaning "good oaks" or an O'odham word meaning "small spring."
