Russia was doing poorly in the war, the Provisional Government refused to pull Russia out of the war, and began announcing new offensives. Soldiers didn't like the idea, so they began withdrawing from the army and protesting against the war, along with the Bolsheviks.

In the later stages of World War 1 Russia cracked socially and politically as well as militarily. There was a (moderate) revolution in March 1917 and the Tsar, who had become deeply unpopular, was forced to abdicate. The new, 'provisional' government continued to fight, though Russia was exhausted. This, too, turned out to be very unpopular and in November 1917 the Bolshevists seized power.

Russia did not have the preparedness necessary for World War 1 and as a result the people suffered greatly. Germany's economy and industrial strength far surpassed Russia's, who couldn't keep up with the material demands of the war. This gave increased popular support to revolutionaries that had unsuccessfully attempted uprisings in the past.

In numerous ways, some hard to beieve. I'll mention only two.

1. The Russians peasants were extremely poor and bakward. They had only recently been freed and many had never left their village before. The war helped them get into contact with other realities and traditions. They discovered a thing called "democracy", something that had NEVER existed in Russia. This made them think...

2. The poor peasants were properly dressed for the first time in their life. They even had boots, suitable for long marches, but also for demonstrations in Sankt Petersbrug during the winter!

3. The Germans, desperate to get rid of at least one enemy (as the Americans were about to join the war) arranged for the exiled Lenin to be secretely brought back to Russia, confident he would stir up things!

3 facts, not 2, but there are many other trigger elements.

How did world war 1 lead to revolution lead to revolution?

Russia was beaten badly by the Germans on the battlefield, while back in Russia, the Russian civilian people starved and went without. Also, Tsar Nicholas was a failure as a leader of Russia, just like French king Louis XVI was a failure. The Germans allowed Lenin (a Russian communist) to travel to Russia to get that nation out of the war, and Lenin led a revolution in Russia to try and solve the internal problems of Russia. The internal problems in Russia would not be solved for a long time.
