Is it an IBM Thinkpad t40 series? If so it is likely a loose GPU chip. ATI used an inferior BGA solder on them so they all come loose over time. Companies like superior reball may be able to repair it for around $50, otherwise get a new motherboard.
On most there is a small oval sized button with a hite dot in the center. Press it or press and hold it.

IBM made ThinkPad's T40, T41 and T42 which all had titanium cases, but I saw this last back in 2004. Apple made a PowerBook G4 up until 2006 with titanium case.

Torx is a family of screws/bolts, and their associated tools. They work very much like Allen screws, but instead of an internal hexagonal shape, Torx use a star shaped interface. The star shape can transmit more power than the hexagonal shape, protecting the user from stripping the bolt/screwheads. Just like Allen keys, Torx comes in several sizes, with T40 being one of them.
