Most atheists do not necessarily set out to improve the world through their beliefs, but simply believe what they know to be true. Of course, atheists are also just as likely to seek to improve the world as are religious people, as the examples of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet demonstrate.

Religion is arguable one of the greatest causes of human misery, responsible for countless wars and acts of terrorism, persecution and intolerance. On that view, Richard Dawkins is seeking to improve the world by asking people to endorse his belief that there is probably no God, thereby removing a cause of trouble in our world.
