Tsalagi (Cherokee) villages normally contained one central building with seven sides used for ceremonial purposes. Surrounding this would be the normal "Asi" (or Wattle) homes. The village would normally include a 'ball field" where they played the original version of a game now known as Lacrosse, as well as a dance circle (sometimes both of these were the same). Some larger villages had wooden palisades (tall wooden walls). It is interesting to note that the homes would all face east, and the dance circle was always entered from the east.

The Cherokee Indians lived in Chickees. The had no walls or doors. Its was the base part of the house and then a roof that's all no walls. This is because it was really hot like extremly hot so they didnt have any doors or walls. The house doesnt touch the ground for some reason. The house was held bye some sticks or log. Im not really sure, I cant describe how it looks like that much. But its made out of woods and logs. Hoped this helped. =]

Their faces look like all other indians. They are slightly darker in appearance than caucasians. Since they wear the same clothes as everyone else, they are impossible to pick out in a crowd. However, if you go to Cherokee, North Carolina, for one of their shows, they will look special for your benefit and entertainment.

Traditional Cherokee houses were made of mud and clay, with roofs of brush and river cane. However by the 1700's, many lived in log cabins or clapboard houses similar to those built by European settlers.

The Sioux Indians, (Teton, Yankton, and Santee), were nomadic people. They needed to be able to pack up and move to follow the buffalo so there homes or tipis were made from buffalo hides and wood poles. The village was a collection of tipis along with places to stake the horses.
