There are two chalazae anchoring each yolk, on opposite ends of the egg. the eggshell is deposited around the egg in the lower area of the oviduct just before it is laid. the shell is made from calcite a crystalline form of calcium carbonate. then the chicken will lay her egg from her anus/bottom/bum whatever you want to call it. this entire process takes around 24 hours.
