I have tested them out and have had great results in chasing away critters as soon as they are plugged in! Now to answer your question about how they work, it is an ultrasonic frequency that is emitted that rodents do not like, much like a dog whistle. keep it plugged in and no rodents, unplug them and no more dog whistle to keep them away! simple as that!
