∙ 10y agoFirst step to fabricate pipe saddle is set the saw at 35 degrees. Get scrap pipe and set it on the saw then adjust the length to cut off do not cut in the center. Once the pipe is tight use a C clamp as a stop when the pipe is turned half rotation the clamp will be the same length as the cut been made.

I edited and uploaded a program I wrote to calculate pipe saddle layout, pipe miter layout, and to calculate running offsets for piping runs. I have used similar programs in the past to get information to pipe fitters. I am using and evaluating a conversion program that limits what I can upload during the free trial period; so the sheets may be a bit awkward to use....let me know. Those of you who use the method of dividing a pipe in 16-divisions will note I have added 64-division points should you want to use these; the 64-divisions would be better to use if you were making a saddle template for larger pipe or for a saddle with a shallow angle. Can you cut into cast iron soil pipe with plastic soil pipe?
You can put up to a 2 inch pipe into a 4 inch. If you are putting 4 inch to 4 inch, either take out a section of the cast and put the PVC in or cut out a section and connect the PVC to the cast with rubber sleeves meant for this. You can use a saddle clamp for the 2 inch. It is a half round piece of PVC with a 2 inch connection in it. It is held on with two U bolts that go around the cast pipe. Put it where you need it and mark the 2 inch hole on the cast. Drill a series of 1/8 inch holes around this circle. when you get them all drilled, you can break out the plug. Try to keep it from falling into the cast pipe. Put the saddle clamp on and connect the PVC pipe as needed. Seal the saddle clamp to the cast pipe with plumbers putty.

The saddle is PVC and held on with two U bolts. Put the clamp in position, on the top side if putting it on a horizontal pipe. Mark around on the inside of the hole in the saddle. Use a new 1/8th drill bit you might need several, and make a series of holes almost connecting around the hole you marked. When you have them all drilled, elongate them to connect them, When most of them are connected tap on the plug until it begins to break out. Try and catch it before it falls into the pipe. You can drill 1 hole in the center and put a screw in it to hold onto. Put a bead of plumber putty around the hole where the saddle will compress it. Put the U bolts on and tighten.
