go online or to Home Depot and get a zinc anode thingie to put in it. they are sold near the swamp coolers or buy it online from Bon Aire Anodes are great, BUT if you have a new unit and read the warranty, you will find that it will void it if you use the anode or chemicles to freshen the air. The odor from a swamp cooler is generally caused by bacteria and/or mold, which tend to make it smell like, well, a swamp.
