I record music by putting the song on turning the volume halfway down and moving the phone just beside the computer then when you've recorded it go into the recording press options and it should say use ring tone and it will set as a ring tone. It Depends On What Kind Of Phone You Got Because If You Don't Have A Certain Phone That Could Set it As A ring tone It Want Work SORRY SOMETIMES LIFE SUCKS

As far as I know, you can only do a custom ring tone for calls, but not texts. Third party apps offer custom text tones (even LED colors if your phone has that) for each individual contact.
