First, there's a huge herd. Small predators won't attack. Next, they can stand on their hind limbs to watch for predators. Animals with good stealth will probably make it to one. Finally, they all had great speed. Only fast hunters can catch one. If none of these work, their final defense is a thumb that's actually a spike. If you can Dodge the spike you can take him down.
