Insects can protect themselves in many ways. Here are some examples.
They can fly away: flies, ladybugs
They can hop away: crickets, grasshoppers
They can use camouflage to blend in with their surrounding: moths, grasshoppers
They can use their small size : they hide in small places their enemies can't go: ants
They can adapt: They can live in cold places or extremely hot places where they have few natural enemies; The midgefly and woolly caterpillar can survive in Antarctica.
They can bite and sting: earwigs, wasps and bees.
They can eat certain plants: The monarch butterfly eats milkweed as a caterpillar so the adult butterfly will taste bad to birds.
They have a hard exoskeleton to protect myself from being eaten: ladybugs, junebugs, beetles.
They curl up in a ball and play dead: ladybugs and sawbugs(potato beetle)
They protect each other: Ants give out a warning sent to other ants when in danger.
They live in groups: Ants and bees have guards at the door of the nest to keep enemies out.
They can even spray noxious fluid (Bombardier beetle) or lash out with sharp spikes (New Guinea Walking Stick).
they have warning colors-bees and wasps where yellow and black to warn off predators
Many insects are camouflaged (naturally disguised), so that predators do not see them. Some species are armed with stingers or foul-tasting poison. Many of these have bright colors, such as black and yellow stripes, to warn enemies away. Some bugs are thorny so the predators would have a hard time trying to swallow one of them. Stink bugs shoot out a foul smelling odor from their abdomen (butt).

Excellent question it depends on the type of bug! eeriewigs use there"tweesers" to attack. Wasps and bees will use there stinger, Spiders will use there venom and rhino beetles will use there horns there is a load of insects i cant explain them all for u. But thanx!!
--------------------------(the answer above is very lacking)---------------------------
Earwigs (not eeriewigs) use modified mandibles as a defense, as do rhino beetles, ants and most other insects. Some insects, like bees and fire ants, can sting using a modified egg laying appendage (this is why only female bees and ants sting). Stink-bugs actually create and mix two different chemicals to cause a chemical reaction that produces a fowl smell and heat.
Spiders are not insects, they are arachnids, and therefore another question entirely.
mosquitoes really can't defend themselves but, they are quite sneaky.
By hiding, using camouflage, running, jumping, mimicry, deterrent chemicals, or painful/irritating chemicals.
I don't know! I've been trying to find out.
To defend itself a ladybug will shoot out a liquid (That isn't urine) and because it's bright yellow the other animal thinks it's poisonious and will run away.
They mimic leaves.
I think they protect themselves by their height,or attract other bugs that kill the pest. Or standing still. They also protect themselves by pulling in their long flowers to protect the seeds.
to use its tail
To hide an protect themselves from predators, stick bugs are fantastic at camouflaging themselves into various types of sticks and twigs. To help them, they change color too.(only to brown and green for all or most species)
When they feel threatened, they hide in their shell, that's how they protect themselves
Pill bugs nickname is Roly Poly because they roll up into a ball to protect themselves.
Leaf bug, praying mantis or the stick bug, disguise themselves in this way, but it is probably the stick insect you are thinking about.
From Humans ... they can't because we squish them. From other bugs ... they might use their pointy tail to defend themselves. I think they get eaten by animals and bigger bugs though.

O_oNo.o_O
Ants protect aphids and lady bugs want to eat them.
Stick bugs are not predators themselves, they eat different leaves and other vegetation. However, they are the prey to different species of birds.
