A hatching baby turtle should be left alone for about two days, don't try to help him out of his egg. The baby turtle will be equipped with an egg tooth, which he will use to break through the leathery shell of his egg. Again DON'T HELP HIM, by breaking out of the shell himself he will start to develop strong muscles. The baby may decide to stay in his egg, even when opened, for a couple days, unless you see mold then don't touch him. He might flip over on his back but don't worry. When the baby does come out he will have a sac of yoke attached to his belly by a little hole. DO NOT take it off, the baby will absorb the yoke into his belly and then the hole will close up. After 2 days since he hatched then you can put him on some wet paper towels until the yoke is fully absorbed and the hole has closed.

They don't! Once the eggs have been laid the female turtle returns to the sea. When the young hatch, they surface out of the sand and head towards the sea, running the gauntlet of predators (foxes, gulls, seals, etc.) lying in wait.
