There are many different ways that artists and musicians can record their music. Most signed or popular artists prefer to use a professional recording studio. Professional studios, in comparison to home studios, give the artist a variety of ways to create and record music. Typically pro studios have a variety of microphones and effects units that effect the way the sound of the instruments or the voice are recorded. Most importantly, professional studios have acoustically designed rooms and large mixing boards. This allows multiple instruments to be recorded simultaneously while the musicians (or band) are playing a song.

However, musicians can also record at home. All that is required is a microphone and a means of recording. Typically in the modern world this means a computer and some digital recording software. They are many DIY techniques that people can employ at home to mimic a professional studio - all it requires is knowledge of recording techniques, some creativity, and a little cash.

Many different things make up a recording studio from equipment to the actual building. One studio computer program used by engineers is Pro Tools. Some also Find Cubase very good as well. Reason is also a good one. Whatever you find you can work with as an engineer is good if you are able to equal professionally released recordings.

All studios are not the same in providing equipment. Based on the type of music to be recorded. Some provide some of the list below:

1.Microphones of various sizes

2.Keyboards - Midi Controller or pianos

3.Compressor or any signal Processor that comes with one

4. Microphones Preamp

5.A Good Computer with lots of RAM

6.Studio Monitors

7.Mixer Board

8.Interface

9.If you Have Any Instruments not provided by the studio (drums etc.) The interface should take care of that - Motu Is a good Brand For studio interfaces

10.Any type of Signal Processor you think you would need, EQ, Limiter, Vocal Effects,De-esser, Expander/gate etc

Good Cords Would help too for a setup.:)

Remember updated electronic studio equipment with proven abilities of product produced in a studio is essential for obtaining clients for the business of recording.

Essentially you go to a recording studio to record. When it comes to bands recording music, most studios will also mix the record and some will also master. You can find studios that specifically mix, and master as well.

Obviously a recording studio will "record". What it records is really up to whoever books time. Generally its musicians recording music. But they are not limited to just music. Voice dialog is also recorded at studios. Whether its for a local independent movie, or a radio commercial it can easily be done in a recording studio.

Another feature studios can offer is being able to make dubs of things. When I worked at a studio we had a little frail old lady come in with really really old reel to reel tapes of a church choir. She wanted us to make cd's of those reels so they could continue to be enjoyed. Because studios have tape machines and other odd pieces, they can often be used to make better copies of existing material. As a side note, those recordings that lady had were amazing.

Because of the way the music industry is going, a lot of studios are branching out and doing more than just recording. A lot of labels are forming around a studio. This saves the label money by being able to record without having to pay someone else to record their bands. Also you can probably find studios that do more with the manufacturing and duplication of cd's. So not only do you record your music, you also get your cd's printed up with them.

Record. If other members of the band are recording overdubs or something like that then an artist not being used will sit around and do whatever they want. Sometimes that's sit and get drunk or high, or play Video Games, watch tv, or sit and watch the recordings. Essentially though and artist will go in, record their music, then leave.

Typically most of the benefit comes to the vocal recording. Studios use isolation booths in an effort to get the cleanest sound possible on vocals. The iso booths have been sound treated to get rid of almost all noise. When you combine that with a high quality studio mic you get a great sound. A wide open room with a mic in the middle makes for a really poor sound. A small iso booth gets rid of the excess room noise so the mic picks up only what is being sung.
