an optical illusion is a visually perceived image that is deceptive or misleading so they work in different ways. I have seen them in paper where you look for something and see something else until you are told what the picture really is or like the chalk drawings on the sidewalks that seen from an angle they look like three dimentional figures.
Optical illlusions decieve the brain as to the image seen by its angles or shapes.
