Shy and peaceful by nature, pandas will attack if necessary, especially to protect their young.

Pandas weigh almost 2x heavier than most adult humans. For protection they have large molar teeth, very strong jaw muscles, and deadly claws used mainly for crushing bamboo.

The giant panda aurlopoda malonoucea defends itself and its cubs by using the claws, teeth and their strength. They also climb trees.

Giant pandas are incredibly large so they don't have many predators. The leopard, however, is the most common one and it mostly just attacks the cubs. A smart leopard wouldn't do that because obviously pandas have incredibly strong teeth for chewing on bamboo so if a leopard walks by it and attacks a giant panda's cub, it can just bite on it hard and it will most probably run away.

Giant pandas are solitary and peaceful animals who will usually avoid confrontation. If escape is impossible, they will fight back.

They use physical strength (2x heavier than humans), strong jaw muscles and large molars used mainly for chewing bamboo which can make for a very nasty bite. Pandas are great tree climbers taught from the age of 6 months, they swim, and unlike most bears, they don't hibernate for months at a time.
They protect themselves by hiding from predators in trees, valleys and fighting back but that is really rare for anyone to see
