If the spring is still in tack - and by that I mean still hooked at both ends - you need to re-install it in the trunk latch.
1. remove any screws holding the trunk liner on - usually one torx screw in the handle area inside the trunk.
2. pop the liner off - takes some effort so by careful, but forceful.
3. disconnect the trunk latch via two 10mm nuts and disconnect the cables.
4. remove the black plastic cover and electric switch (light grey)
5. re-install the spring and check for function.
6. Installation is the reverse of removal.
I don't know on your model where the attachment points are for the spring in the latch.
Good Luck
As far as I can see, because I crawled into the trunk to open the trunk so I could repair the mechanism that opens the trunk. No!
Often with wear and time, the big spring in the front of the hood will get too compressed to force the hood open when the latch is pulled inside the car. Expand the hood spring by pulling on it or take it off and expand it.
Yes. It is in the door latch.
How to repair the rear door latches on my e 350 van. The bottom latch will not hold . How do I get the latch to hold Thanks
my hood latch did the same thing, and i found the only way to make it catch is by manually pushing the hood release button BACK IN before closing the hood and then it seems to work fine If you have to manually push the release back in to operate the mechanism, you have one of two problems. The spring on the hood latch is broken or the hood latch or release cable is corroded and sticky. Locate the hood latch near the radiator and spray it liberally with a penetrating lubricant, visually check to see if the return spring is broken. If the spring is good and the lubricant doesn't fix the problem you will need to replace the cable, which looks much like the brake cables on a bicycle.
what is wrong with the door latch? will it not open/latch? what year is the vehicle? all of these are needed to answer your question.
left door latch is broke

The center console lid latch may break causing the console lid to pop open frequently. Obtain a 1/4" spring to sit naturally in the latch. this has fixed my latch hook. The issue is the hing is too soft and, when bent, causes the latch alignment pointer to break off. The latch then won't hook properly. Fix has worked for 4 years so far...despite 3 sons.
To assemble a full electric hospital bed, latch together the foot-spring and head-spring sections. Then hook the bottom head-spring center mounting latch to the bottom foot-spring center mounting rivet.
