When you have the top of your ear pierced (cartilage) then you are meant to have it done with a needle. You are supposed to have it done with a sterilized needle NOT a gun. If you have it pierced with a gun there is a higher risk it will become infected. When you have it done with a needle all they do is clamp you ear. So you don't feel the pain and then they put the needle through. You can't really feel anything as your ear is clamped. Then they put the earring in your ear. If you were thinking of having your ear pierced at the top i would think of how much pain you can tolerate. It hurts more than a normal ear piercing. It doesn't really hurt in the healing process (Which i was told could be anything up to 6 months) but it only hurts if you bang it. If you bang it then it may hurt for the next day. But it only aches. But i never regretted having mine done its great.

Body Piercing is not a hobby or recreational activity, it is a serious procedure that if done incorrectly can cause lasting long term damage to the body. Body Piercing is a service provided by trained and qualified professionals in a controlled environment using only sterilized materials and bio-compatible body jewellery designed for specific piercings. This is site is not designed or intended to provide users with "how to information" that could cause serious injury to themselves or others from the use of posted information. See a professional body piercer for all your piercings.

they clean it, mark it with one of those purple sharpes, put a clamp on to line it up so the dots r in the middle of the clamp holes, then the needle goes through which it is like a pinch a really hard pinch im not going to lie it does kinda hurt but not bad enough to cry or anything, then they keep the needle in for a few seconds they put the jewelry on the end of the needle and push it through, then they screw the ball on, then finally ur done!!!!

They give you some mouth wash clean your lip with a wipe then she/he marks your lip with a marker three dots asks you which spot you like best erases the other marks & grabs your lip with these little tongs then simply grabs the needle puts the piercing in & your done. Doesn't hurt at all!

Piercings are done in an inspected and licensed facility by a trained andexperienced professional body piercer using only new sterilized single use piercing needles and Biocompatible jewellery from 316LVM Stainless Surgical Steel , Grade 23 Titanium, Niobium, Bioplast (Biocompatible plastics) and PTFE ( polytetrafluoroethylene or surgical grade Teflon). Gold and Silver are never used for new piercing and rarely acceptable in healed piercings due to the fillers and alloy materials used in these metals. Piercing guns are never used by experienced professional body piercers due to the sterilization concerns and the poor design of the gun and studs.

Ear lobes can be pierced with a piercing gun - a machine which drives a sharpened starter stud through your ears - or they can be pierced (and some argue this is the best method, and it's certainly the method to be used on all areas apart from ear lobes.) using a needle.

The standard needles used are beveled-tip hollow medical needles of various gauges (thicknesses). Straight needles are used for most areas. The needle is usually the same gauge or larger than the initial jewellery. The needle is inserted by hand and, with the needle still in the body, the initial jewellery is pushed through the opening, following the back of the needle. Jewellery is often inserted into the hollow end of the needle so as the needle is pulled through, the jewellery is left behind.

It really depends on what type you get and the piercer. Microdermals can be inserted with either a dermal punch or needles. Surface piercings are done with needles
