Turkey is a Moslem country, although there are CatholicinTurkey. It is not illegal to practice Christianity in Turkey. For the Moslems, December 24th is not a date that commemorates Jesus' birth. In Demre, Turkey Christmas is celebrated every year during the three-day festival held in early December. In Turkey the food they ate on Christmas was goose.

Mostly the same as Thanksgiving. This year, we had turkey, potatoes cooked around the turkey, broccoli casserole (b/c didn't feel like making green bean & artichoke cassarole), homemade (not from a box!) mac and cheese and cornbread dressing. Forgot to get the cranberry sauce. And dessert was homemade toffee w/ chocholate and walnuts. But for Christmas we don't always do the same thing. One year we made meatballs and spagetti. One year we had lamb.

Turkey is eaten at Christmas because it has become a tradition to serve either turkey or ham for Christmas dinner. It probably started because families get together on Christmas and turkey and ham can serve a large group of people.
