Free websites like Google make money primarily through advertising. Google's main source of revenue is its advertising platform, Google Ads, which allows businesses to place ads on Google's search results pages, as well as on other websites and apps that are part of the Google Ad Network.

Google also generates revenue through other services like Google Cloud, Google Play (which sells apps, games, and other digital content), and hardware products such as Pixel phones and Nest smart home devices.

Additionally, Google collects user data and uses it to improve its services and provide targeted advertising. This data is gathered through various means, such as tracking user search queries, website visits, and app usage. Google also offers services like Google Analytics, which helps website owners track their website traffic and user behavior.

In summary, while Google offers many free services to users, it generates revenue primarily through advertising and by offering additional paid services to businesses and individuals.

They sell advertising not just space but also promotion techniques. They are also paid when they put a client's product at or near the top of a search result. Even a small amount of money for each "hit" can result in a large payment to the search engine companies. This refers to pay per click in which counted every time a user click their advertisement. == ==

Not all Web Browsers do make money. Some are open source software maintained by members of the open source community. Others, such as internet Explorer, are commercial programmes but are offered free as an element of other paid-for software packages or operating systems, such as Windows XP or Vista. Browsers such as Firefox do make money, although they are free to the end user. They earn revenue from companies such as Google who pay a referral fee to Firefox for searches done via the built-in search bar.

Google has several ventures these days that are far and above their search engine. Primarily there know for there ad space on Google's search engine that produced about 45 million in 2014. When you do a search you will notice that there are ads at the top and down the right side. These are paid for by advertisers. The ads generate about 4% of the clicks while the results, called organics generate the 96% of the clicks with 90% of those clicks going to the top two organic results. You can't buy organic results.

Google earns the majority of its revenue from advertising.

Businesses and website owners use Google AdSense to place Google Adverts onto their websites. The owner of the website earns money from every click the adverts generate, and so does Google.

There are billions of websites on Google, so there are billions and billions of advertisements, so Google makes, yes that's right, billions of profit every year.

Google also allows some business owners to have themselves "featured" in Google search results, for a price of course.

So, your answer is advertising, which generates billions of revenue a year for Google.

Google is now making $3 billion a month in advertising - the majority of which comes from little text ads next to search results. They make money with PPC advertising.

Advertising.

They allow people to display ads on search results, and the people pay them money to do it. Also, they keep a percentage of money from AdSense.
