I'm currently studying A-Levels and what I would say to this is, make sure the kids do the work, but let them have fun, enjoy themselves and have a relaxing atmosphere in the classroom. Some lessons i have at school it seems like the teacher made an effort to make it boring and dreary, whereas others put in effort, give rewards and make the lesson very fun. A favourite treat of mine is 5 minutes of Youtube at the end of the lesson where we can watch whatever we want.
