You need a long thing funnel. Available at any auto supply store for a couple dollars. It should be around 1-2 feet long and thin at the tip. Pull your tranny dipstick, look at the dipstick and be sure to check the level however it tells you ie. in neutral with the engine warm, etc. Be sure not to overfill as this could damage your tranny.
It may not have a dipstick. If it does not remove the Red Filler Cap located on the top of the transaxle and fill until it overflows. Fill slowly so it does not make a mess and you should be good.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES fill the entire transmission to overflowing!!!
If there is no dipstick, your transmission should be filled only to the level of a drain plug, down low, on the side of the transmission case. BUT... there is a specific and complicated procedure to assure that you add the proper AMOUNT of fluid. This procedure is described at http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1g/bl777g.htm
The procedure is done with the car raised, LEVEL, engine running, mildly warm, etc. so that the maximum amount of fluid is in circulation in the transmission WHILE you adjust the fluid level. Too much fluid or too little will be deadly to your transmission. The only way to add the proper amount of fluid is to follow the procedure completely.
go to the Chevrolet dealer and buy only syncromesh transmission fluid. do not add anything else it will ruin your transmission.
You can add atf but you won't know how much to add or when it is full. This needs to be done on a lift in a garage by a mechanic.
try changing the map sensor, that was the problem on mine.
Fluid is added through the transmission dipstick.
you pour it in :)
the power steering reservoir
Get a lube shop to do it.
Through the dipstick tube.
Thru dipstick tube
Assuming this is an automatic transmission, you can add ATF through the transmission dipstick tube. The dipstick itself will tell you what type of fluid to add.
AnswerNormally on GM vehicles you check the fluid with the transmission fluid warm, parked on a level surface, engine running, transmission in park. According to the manufacturer, there are also some GM vehicles that have a sealed for life transmission. On these you cannot check the level. Your owners manual will spell all this out for you. If it does have a dipstick, look on the stick for directions. All transmissions require maintenance. On a Cavalier that is supposed to be sealed for life, you can still check and add transmission fluid.2003 to 2005 Cavalier transmission fluid level/filling.With the vehicle running, you remove a bolt located on the transmission. It is on the passenger side, where the CV joint connects to the transmission. It is also about 3 inches above the transmission oil pan. You can't miss it, looks like it has no reason to be there. You add Transmission fluid until it starts dripping from the hole missing the bolt. Place the bolt back into place. Your transmission is now filled to level.Don't forget, DO NOT ADD CHEAP transmission fluid to this vehicle. It is very delicate and cheap fluid will make the transmission slip. Add ONLY Dexron-Mercon or higher quality transmission fluid.
