According to the Help Center of WikiAnswers:
A Category Supervisor oversees one or more categories of interest. Often, those employed (or hobbyists) in a certain field will choose to supervise their category of expertise.
You must meet the requirements for being a Supervisor. Then you can become either a "Floating" Supervisor or a Category Supervisor. If there is a specific category that you have knowledge in, either by virtue of a hobbyist's knowledge and experience or a professional background, you might be able to supervise it, or join the existing Supervisors.
Or you can request the creation of a new category and can then Supervise that category.

Contribute through good answers and proper category re-categorizations for a few weeks/months. Good work never goes unnoticed. Some category supervisor would spot your good work and would offer extra responsibilities to you.
If one or more of the supervisors feel you would be able to make a good supervisor, they would recommend you for the position and you can get it.
Remember, it can be got only by merit and not by request. Just because someone wants to be a supervisor, he cannot become one. Only if the existing supervisors feel he would be eligible and effective as a supervisor, the responsibility would be entrusted on him.
Category Supers are typically either employed in the category field, are hobbyists, or like myself, longtime experts in the area due to both training, experience, etc. Most Supervisors begin at a lower level and work their way up, or like me are invited to become a Supervisor based on contributions to the site - Answers, Edits, etc. To be a Supervisor, you must be at least 15. There are also other Wiki Programs you can enter as well. To find out more, click on the "Help" link at the top of you Answers.com page, then go to the Contributors section, and click on Programs. The various WA Programs available are there, including the Supers program. I've added the basic requirements below; you can see the entire page at the Help Center.
What will get you noticed is the quality of your answers, not necessarily the quantity. If there is a particular Category you're interested in, let me know and I'll forward your name for consideration. Remember though that you must meet the basic requirements regardless, and we do check your contributions.
Because Supervisors have so much power we need to make sure they understand how WikiAnswers works. These are the simple requirements:
When you have met the requirements and are ready to take the next step, email Supervisor @ WikiAnswers.com (remove spaces). Make sure to include your interest in becoming either a Category or Floating Supervisor and provide your User ID. We'll do a quick review of your previous contributions and contact you ASAP.
