This is super simple, though it may seem tough if you've never done it.

Unplug from wall first off - avoid touching any water if the washer isn't drained already.

Pop the top of the washer assembly off (you shouldn't have to take it completely apart yet.)- there are two screws preventing it from popping open (either on the front, under plastic on the front, or behind the washing machine.)

Disconnect the plastic thing that connects the bottom part of the washer to the top. (you should see it right away - that's the connector for your lid switch)

Ok - so far so good right? Now take the plastic connector that goes to the top of the unit and look at it - there should be 3 wires - with green in the middle, usually. What you want to do is take a piece of wire (insulated preferably, unless you want a big shock), strip both ends, and plug it into the bottom part of that same 'top' connector - avoiding the green wire.

It should look like a letter U when you're finished (you're basically looping the circuit, tricking it into thinking it's a complete connection)

now plug the washer in, and turn the dial to the rinse or spin cycle to see if it'll work. More than likely it will - now all you have to do is get a new switch and you'll be set.

Do not leave 'jimmy rigged' with that wire, or you're asking for trouble.

Hiring Someone to Repair Your GE washer ?

If your washer recently broke, you should strongly consider getting it repaired now. While repairing your own washer may seem difficult, hiring someone else to do it is quite easy. Before you hire someone, you should carefully check their background of success. The best way to repair a GE washer is to hire a company to repair your washer. Hiring a company to repair your GE washer means that they will have a professional in GE repair and that they will have already asked the necessary questions that you need to ask, like how many years of experience that they have and whether or not they are capable to handle your problem.
