Put simply Amount/Total = Percentage, so, to calculate percentages in Excel, using as an example the numbers 25-18=7 when you want to find what percentage 7 is of 25, You type the formula =(7/25) then press the enter key. This will show the result as 0.28 All you then need to do is go to Format then number and chose Percentage. This will then show your result as 28%. Say for example Cell A1 is 25, and Cell A2 is 18, and Cell A3 is 7 , then your formula for Cell A4 would be =(A3/A1). The result will then be 0.028 which becomes 28%

You can use the percentage sign in a formula or use the value as a decimal. If you have a value in B3 and want to find ten percent of it, you could use either of the following formulas in another cell:

=B3*10%

=B3*0.1

IF you want to reduce a value by a percent, you need to find that percentage and take it away from the total, or multiply the value by the remaining percentage. If you want to take 10% off something, then you can find the 10% and take it away like this:

=B3-(B3*10%)

Or you could just get 90% of the original value:

=B3*90%

If you want to find what percentage one number is of another, then you divide one into another. So if you wanted to find what percentage 53 is of 92 then you would use the following formula:

=53/92

If you wanted to find what percentage 92 is of 53 then you would use the following formula:

=92/53

You would then format the result as a percentage. Instead of actually typing numbers into the formulas, you would put the two values into cells and then use the formula to reference the cells. So if the 53 is in A2 and 92 is in A3 then the two above formulas would be:

=A2/A1

=A1/A2

Note that if you merely want to display the percentage symbol after your number, you can use the format options to format the cell. Choose the Custom option and enter the formula as a hash mark followed by a double-quoted percent sign: #"%"

If you want to find the percentage of increase between A1 and A2, enter the original number in A1 and the larger number in A2. In cell A3, enter the formula =(A2-A1)/A1. This will give you a decimal, so if you want percent, you will need to multiply it by 100. Also, it isn't necessary to always have the larger number be in A2, as long as you use the absolute value function: =(ABS(A2-A1)/A1)*100

Right click on the cell that you want to convert to %. Choose "format" Choose "percentage" Choose how many decimal points you want. That's it. If you want the entire column formatted percentage, on the bottom right of the cell you just formatted, click and drag through the rest of the column and the format will copy. Best thing to do is save between these operations in case you inadvertently click and drag the wrong thing. You can either "undo" the last command or close without saving.

I am afraid there is no special function for percentage calculation in MS Excel.

It is up to you create formula suitable for the task you want to accomplish.

For instance type value 200 into cell A1.

To increase the value in cell by 30% you can type one of the following formulas (say into cell B1):

=1.3*A1

=(1+0.3)*A1

=130%*A1

etc.

(To decrease the value in A1 by 15% you can use similar formulas: =0.85*A1 or =(1-0.15)*A1 or =85%*A1, etc.)

To calculate the change between two values in percents another set of formulas can be applied. Having an original value in cell A1 and new value in cell B1 following formulas can work:

=(B1-A1)/A1 (in the case you do not expect negative values)

=B1/A1-1 (in the case you do not expect negative values)

=(B1-A1)/ABS(A1)

etc.

To see the result of the calculation in percents, format the cell containing the formula with a percentage format

That could mean two things. Either to add the percentage of a number to a number or to add an actual percentage to a number. For each of those there are various ways you can do it. We will work with 5% for the following examples, remembering that we can also use 0.05 which is the decimal form.

To add 5% of 20 to 20, you could do any of the following:

=20 + 20 * 5%
=20 + 20 *.05
=20 * 105%
=20 * 1.05

To add 5% of another number, say 30, to 20, you could do any of the following:

=20 + 30 * 5%
=20 + 30 *0.05

To add the value 5% to 20 you could do any of the following

=20 + 5%
=20 + 0.05

To make these formulas applicable for any value you would replace the 20 with a cell reference, which would be the more common way of doing it. Assuming we use cell A2, the first example would then be:

=A2 + A2 * 5%

Let's suppose that you want to subtract 5% from the number 100.

A B

1 value %

2 100 5%

=A2-A2*B2
