How do you change a crank sensor on a '99 Jetta 3 2 0L?

[Edit]

Answer

there is nothing called a "crank sensor". there are two sensors which come close, the camshaft position sensor and the engine speed sensor. the camshaft position sensor is mounted on the distributor and is sometimes replaced by replacing the distributor even though you can buy it separately 'cuz it is a really difficult replacement on some models. the engine speed sensor is located on the transmission on top, in the engine compartment near the shift linkages.

Answer

The cam shaft position sensor is located behind the front engine mount, remove starter, oilfilter, and any hoses that are in the way to replace, took me about a day, it is a pain in the crack..... the way you know it is the sensor is by not having a spark upon startup (computer will tell u it is the cam shaft pos. sensor and the mass airflow sensor, do not waste your money on a new mas air flow sensor, it is not what is wrong with your car!)
