you should have a tensioner assembly you can loosen up to get the belt off easier, and to slip the new one on. there should also be a schematic on the frame of your truck right where you lift the hood from. this will tell you the proper route to take with your new belt ;)

I am assuming you have the straight six engine. (Excellent engine by the way should go into the 200k range). Anyhow, Jeep did not include an adjustable idle pully until I believe 96' so here is how it works. You loosen the pivot bolt and the bracket bolt on the Power Steering pump and then there is and adjustment bolt under the pump that you can loosen/tighen to adjust the tension on the belt-makes it swing out(ie. and take it off.) Make a sketch of the routing before you start- this will help you when it comes time to put the new belt back on. This first time I did it it took me a few hours to complete.(Had to figure out how the adjustment was done.) Once you figure out an arrangement for making the bolt move-it is in a TIGHT area, you just have to back it out to the correct tension/slack. It was a poor design and one of my few complaints about that engine arrangement. You might look around- some smart feller might have come up with a retrofit to add a sprung idler pulley (like on the Fords) where you just stick in a 1/2 inch drive, turn it and the belt pops off. Good Luck. Jimbo

Hey, just had a '93 limited belt ot replace today. At front of water pump is a tensioner spring pully. Slap a 15mm spanner over the retaining bolt on that sucker and heave toward the engine, and down. The smooth pully to the immediate right will allow the belt to slip right off. When replacing DONT do what I did today and, while straining to hold the tension on the spring pully, left my fingers in the way while slipping the belt back on. Not nice when the spanner slips. Use a drive or something else blunt to push the belt down the last little bit and slid on.

The AU falcon has a spring loaded tensioner in the form of a pulley, just attach a ratchet and pull it (the pulley) away from the belt. If you cant find the pulley, push on the belt and watch it moove, that's the one you need to move away from the belt.

Pry up on the tensioner and remove the belt then replacee it using the schematic on the fan shroud. if it isn't there, draw one before removing the old one.

The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
