You take the trottle body lose and use a stub wrench to get the bottom bolt. The bottom hole in the gooseneck housing is really a slot, so just loosen the bottom bolt to allow enough clearance to get the housing by the thermostat.

I found removing the bottom bolt made it earier easier to remove the housing. You will need a 10mm stubby wrench(stubby ratchet wrench even better) to get to the bottom bolt,as well as a pry bar to pry the heat shield away from the thermostat housing to give you a little more clearance to get it past the thermostat, this made the job ALOT easier. You should also get yourself a throttle body gasket while your at the parts counter because it will probably break when you remove the TB (mine did).

How do you replace a thermostat in a 2002 Malibu?

On the 3.4 V-6 Chevy Malibu the thermostat is located at the rear of the engine. The exhaust cross over pipe that goes between the exhaust manifolds makes the thermostat housing hard to access. The easiest way to change this thermostat is to first remove the exhaust shield and exhaust cross over pipe, then the t-stat can easily be changed. After changing the thermostat, be sure to bleed the air from the system, look for bleeder screws and run heater until air blows warm.

Can you get a detailed picture of where the Thermostat is on a 2001 Chevy Venture and instrustions on how to change it?

I have had a problem with mine. I have a 1997 Venture. I was told that it is very hard to get to and can take a mechanic around two hours to take out. Unfortunately, my thermostat has a bolt that is stuck and will not budge. The mechanic would have to go about getting it out another way. There was a 50/50 chance that it would come out without ruining a part that would cost $600 to replace.

How do you change thermostat on 1999 Chevy venture van?

Thermostat on 1999 ventureI just had to have mine changed on my 1997 Venture. You have to remove the throttle assembly which is a big job. I had my mechanic do it and it cost $170. The part was $20, labor $150. The dealer and one other mechanic I called wanted $300 to change it :( I just did my own on my '99 venture. Part cost me 13 bucks. If you are handy with tools, it's not that difficult at all. Takes a little time, but it's not that hard to do. hardest time I had was the back bolt on the tstat housing. I have large hands, and you need a 13mm wrench from underneath the exhaust. Tight squeeze and not much turning room. Fortunately, you don't have to remove it completely.

Where is the thermostat located on 2001 venture?

Hi, The thermostat is located on the driver side of the engine, just below and in front of the throttle body. These are a real pain to change because of the extra parts that have to be removed to get to the thermostat housing. I have included a link that shows actual pictures of the location.
