How do you change ac belt? In: Kia Sportage |
[Edit] |
Answer
From under the front vehicle on jackstands.....The bottm wheel of the u belt combo connecting the motor to the ac compressor, is "the" ac compressor that whell has a bolt in the center of it. You must first remove the front skid plate (if equipped) from underneath the radiator and front of engine. It is easy, only 4 bolts. You will see a long tightening bolt along side of ac compressor. Loosen this "without" fully removing the nearly 4 inch long bolt. Now access the center bolt on the ac compressor wheel that the belt runs along. Loosening this bolt allows the the belt wheel to slide up and remove the old belt... if it is still on. Frequently with this piece of junk vehicle you will simply be putting a new one on. With the wheel loosened, reattach new belt so that the belt slides completely into the groove of both motor wheel and ac wheel. While pulling down on ac wheel, tighten the center bolt on it. Now retighten the long adjuster bolt "not too tight, it will break". If beltsqueeks when you start car and ac, then slightly tighten the long one a little more. Replace skid plate. Done.
