How do you change an oil pan gasket on a small block Chevy? |
Answer
if the engine is out,you remove the oil pan bolts around the pan and then pry gently between(with a putty knife or a flat screwdriver)engine and the pan.if it is in, you take the motor mounts loose and raise the engine up enough to get clearance to remove the oil pan bolts.
on my chev I didn't have to take the motor mounts loose but I did take the bottom of the bell housing off "automatic" and dropped the pan, it's a tight squeez but it is possable belive me I've done mine like 3 times because I thought it was the pan leeking but it was actually the front main seal, so check that also it will save u a lot of stress and headach.
