For 2.2L engine, put a wrench (13 or 15mm?) on the bolt in the middle of the idler pulley and rotate clockwise as far as you can go (hold it there because it's under spring tension). This takes the tension off the belt. Now work the belt off the alternator pulley.
To put the new one on, look at the belt routing sticker attached to the underside of the hood. Start by squeezing the belt together on one end and slip it down between the idler and water pump pulleys. Follow the belt routing sticker. The last pulley it will go around will be the alternator. Put the wrench back on the idler and pull clockwise and hold it (go clockwise as far as you can). Work the belt over the last pulley and release the tensioner. Check for correct belt tension.
