How do you change the boot struts on a Vauxhall Astra van?

Answer:
With care. The boot/tailgate lid is VERY VERY heavy. (it's the glass!)

Before you attempt it, use a suitable support for the lid. A length of 2 inch square wood is recommended to prop it up, or a very muscular mate.

Once you have supported the lid, prise the spring clips in the top and bottom of one strut out using a screwdriver. Take care, they tend to "fire off" or "ping off" with force. Safety goggles are a good idea.

Remove the old strut.

Fit the new one. The clips in the new one are "self fitting" so no tools should be needed to fit the new ones.

Then do the other.

Carefully remove the Supporting Brace (in case the new struts are defective or incorrect).

Job done.

(Seen someone remove both at once, without using a support, broke the glass at £350, did £600 in body damage to the car, needed 12 stitches for glass cuts, got glass fragments in their eyes..... be warned!)
