You can either check your question by going back and looking at it from your contributions list, which is available through your bio page, or you can have updated answers sent to your email address. Go to my settings in the 'My Pages' section to the left, here you can request updated answers be sent to your inbox.
If you have registered with a valid e-mail address an e-mail will be sent to you when your question has been answered. The e-mail you receive will be titled "Updated answer" and have a link to your question and the answer on it. The answer itself will not be sent to you via e-mail. To be sure you get that e-mail, click "Get updates" and make sure your "My settings page" has "A daily digest of new unanswered questions in my watchlist categories and notifications about updated answers from my watchlist." selected.
If you registered as a user you can go to "My Settings" and provide an email address and check "enable updates". When you ask a question, click "Watch this question" at the bottom of the page. You will receive an email message whenever your question is updated. If you do not want email notification, as a registered user you can click "My Contributions" in the blue menu to the left of any page. This will show you a list of all the questions and answers you have postedl Alternatively, you can enter the exact question in the ASK/ANSWER box. This should take you directly to your question. If it has received an answer, it will appear below the question.

The images in Google Earth (and Google Maps) are updated on a continuous basis. It's hard to say exactly when an area will be updated because some areas may be updated more frequently than others. Google provides KML feeds showing what areas have been updated in a given update. Google also provides a notification service you can signup to alert you when a given area is updated. For details see the related question.
