you jack up the car,find the oil pan..find the nut that drains the oil, drain it, put the nut back on locate the oil filter (underneath the intake manifold) take it off. Then get the new one and lube the top of the new filter with little bit of oil.......Then put it on hand tight.........Lower the the car.Take off the valve cover cap....Then put the oil in.(i use 5qts 10w-30)

I don't know about your '98 lude, but my '97 oil filler cap, and the Chiltons guide both recommend using the manufacturer's choice of 5w-30. just a thought.
