Gather your tools and supplies. You will need a socket or wrench, drain pan, oil and some clean up rags.

On your lawn tractor the oil drain plug is at the base of the dipstick tube. The drain plug is square. I use a 13 mm (12 point socket) to remove the plug. You can also use a box end wrench.

On my mower, the plug fits close to the body of the tractor so draining the oil always creates a mess. Make sure you have kitty litter or cardboard or something to protect your driveway or grass. I have tried using aluminum foil to catch the oil and route it to my drain pan, but it usually misses.

It helps to turn the steering wheel all the way to the left so that the outside tire turns away and gives you more room for your drain pan. It also helps if the motor has been run some to warm up the oil so it will drain better.

Clean away any dirt or debris around the drain plug and the dipstick opening to prevent dirt getting into the motor. Unscrew the plug and loosen the dipstick. Let the oil drain for a few minutes until there is minimal draining left. Clean the plug and tighten it back into place. Refill the mower by pouring oil into the dipstick tube. According to the manual, you should use 30 weight oil. Not 10w30 or 5w30 because they tend to burn off faster in warm temperatures. The capacity of the motor is 3.0 pints without an oil filter and 3.5 pints with an oil filter. Always check the oil level on your dipstick. Sears has the owners manual on their website:
