On the 3100 engine, the starter can be found by looking between the radiator and the engine block toward the bottom. Disconnect the battery's positive cable 1st, then two wires on one terminal and a smaller wire on another terminal on the starter. You can get more room to work by disconnecting a plastic socket just above the starter. Move the wire housing that runs parallel to the starter toward the radiator. Remove one short 15mm bolt from underneath the starter on the radiator side. From underneath the car on the other side of the bottom of the starter you will have to remove a portion of the flywheel plastic cover by removing one small screw and loosening another to expose the longer mounting 15mm bolt. The starter should come out.
