How do you change thermostat on 2008 4-cylinder Ford Focus?

OK, assuming you have A/c and Power Steering. and that you have a 2.0 DOHC.

the Thermostat and the Housing are a complete unit, there are two models one with a sensor one without. There is no way to "see" witch until you remove it, because its very tight in there. so here we go.

• Jack up car on passenger side and remove front wheel.
• Remove lower belt cover (two 10 mm bolts) and expose belt.
• remove tension from belt by placing 15 mm wrench on tensioner and removing belt.
• place a jack under engine and remove top engine mount.
• remove power steering pulley ( harbor freight tools has a remover and installers) it's easy. remember to use a bit a grease when re-installing pulley.
• remove 4 10 mm bolts that hold P/s pump to engine; there are FOUR do not force or pry on any part of the plastic housing.
• disconnect P/s pump sensor and a/c sensor that are close to thermostat
• put a drip pan under engine to catch spill.
• remove heater hose clamp and hose and move to top of engine to prevent major spill.
• remove bottom hose from Thermostat ( put a clean rag inside hose to prevent major spill)
• remove 3 8 mm bolts from thermostat housing gently pry from engine controlling the amount of coolant coming out.( if you remove it all of a sudden you will have coolant everywhere.)
• remove bad thermostat through space created by removing the P/s pump and clean gasket area on block.
• I did not Drain the cooling system but if you feel you must then do that first.

I did this procedure in about 3 hours taking my time. hope this helps.
