You don't. This would put a strain on the alternator and may burn a diode out. Charge it with a deep cycle battery charger.

How do you charge a boat battery?

The same way you charge a car battery. The only difference in them is that the marine battery is a deep cycle battery, meaning it is designed to be run completely down without damaging the battery. Ideally you need a charger designed to charge deep cycle batteries but you can charge one with a normal battery charger.

What does battery deep cycle mean?

Deep cycle means that the battery gets almost totally drained before recharging occurs. You'd find this on batteries connected to solar panels for instance that are used at night. These batteries differ from a motorcar battery as draining a car battery completely, damages the battery. Deep cycle batteries are designed to deal with this and are usually more expensive than car batteries.

Is it bad to use a boat battery in a car?

When you say boat battery if you are referring to a Deep Cycle battery as used to power a trolling motor then no, it is not suitable for use in a car. However, if you are referring to a battery in a boat used to start the engine and it is not a Deep Cycle battery it will work just fine in a car as long as it fits the battery holder, can be strapped down, and the battery posts are orientated correctly.

How many times can you jump a car battery?

As long as the battery is functional you can continue to jump it. However, know that every time you run a car battery down you shorten its life. A battery that is designed to be run completely down and then recharged is called a deep cycle battery. Automobile batteries are not deep cycle batteries. Discharging them completely causes damage to the battery itself.

How long should an RV battery last?

Most RV batteries are Deep Cycle type. Deep cycle batteries are lead-acid battery capable of being regularly discharged using most of its capacity in the process. Deep cycle batteries also have thicker plates inside the case. Normal car batteries will not discharge to the level or last as long as a deep cycle battery. As to how long it will last (lifespan) also depends on usage. Deep cycle batteries can be stored (fully charged) up to 12 months and only lose 25% of their capacity. Again depends on age of battery. Most RV's have a system where the deep cycle (RV) battery is constantly charged when the engine is running and most too will have a battery charge indicator on a control panel inside the RV itself.

How many times can a car battery cycle?

Automotive batteries are not known for their "deep cycle" capabilities. If possible, don't allow them to EVER discharge completely.
